Requirements for Production part 5

To continue from last time.

If my memory serves me well, the meaning of "Term Clearance" is the permission to use things allowed by the Provider. It usually means allowing people to have a time limit extension, or even to allow the film director to start editing. If you do not have clearance, you will have issues like you won't be allowed to use certain programs for editing.

Copyrights can affect a media production by preventing people from using certain scenes in a film, if it contains something they were not allowed to use, Such as using a Song that is copyrighted can affect a whole film. Luckily, we were not affected by copyright.

Public Liability insurance is, and i quote from Wikipedia:

"Industry and commerce are based on a range of processes and activities that have the potential to affect third parties (members of the public, visitors, trespassers, sub-contractors, etc. who may be physically injured or whose property may be damaged or both). It varies from state to state as to whether either or both employer's liability insurance and public liability insurance have been made compulsory by law. Regardless of compulsion, however, most organizations include public liability insurance in their insurance portfolio even though the conditions, exclusions, and warranties included within the standard policies can be a burden. A company owning an industrial facility, for instance, may buy pollution insurance to cover lawsuits resulting from environmental accidents."

Completion insurance often referred to as delayed completion. It covers income loss or specified additional expenses that result from a delay in the completion of a project when the delay is caused by covered property damage.

Ofcom, to put it simply is a Communications regulator. they often regulate the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.

"The Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) age rating system was established to help European parents make informed decisions on buying computer games. It was launched in spring 2003 and replaced a number of national age rating systems with a single system now used throughout most of Europe, in 30 countries."

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), originally British Board of Film Censors, is a non-governmental organisation, funded by the film industry and responsible for the national classification and censorship of films within the United Kingdom. It has a statutory requirement to classify videos, DVDs and some video games under the Video Recordings Act 2010.

These Items mentioned would affect my DepicT! Project due to one  key thing. All these are mainly rating groups, and if it doesn't get a low rating, It would essentially mess up some of the target audience (People of around our age, As well as younger generations.)

Here is a quote on what a trade union is from Wikipedia.

"A trade union (British English), labour union (Canadian English) or labor union (American English) is an organization of workers who have banded together to achieve common goals such as protecting the integrity of its trade, achieving higher pay, increasing the number of employees an employer hires, and better working conditions. The trade union, through its leadership, bargains with the employer on behalf of union members (rank and file members) and negotiates labour contracts (collective bargaining) with employers. The most common purpose of these associations or unions is "maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment"."

Pact is the main UK trade association representing and promoting the commercial interests of independent feature film, television, digital, children's and animation media companies. While BECTU is the independent trade union for those working in broadcasting, film, theater, entertainment, leisure, interactive media and allied areas.

A trade association, also known as an industry trade group, business association or sector association, is an organization founded and funded by businesses that operate in a specific industry. An industry trade association participates in public relations activities such as advertising, education, political donations, lobbying and publishing, but its main focus is collaboration between companies, or standardization. Associations may offer other services, such as producing conferences, networking or charitable events or offering classes or educational materials. Many associations are non-profit organizations governed by bylaws and directed by officers who are also members.

BIMA is a group who do the following:
  • Support and promote the British digital industry
  • Share knowledge and best practice
  • Reward great work and encourage the next generation
TIGA is the non-profit trade association representing the UK's games industry.

  1. Hi Matt. I think this is good enough to achieve a pass but I'll just get Ellie to cross-mark it too.

It is not comprehensive enough, and there are not enough examples to get a Merit. When you redraft try to use the guidance booklet more carefully.

  2. OK Ellie and I have looked carefully at it. There are some things you need to add/change to be sure of a pass. All the parts I have highlighted in all of the posts need looking at and amending, and also you need to do the following:
    1. Explain the different media forms at the beginning.
    2. There are capital letters everwhere when they are not needed, and when they are needed (as in the titles of films) they are not always there. Please go through and correct this, as well as other spelling and punctuation errors. Ask me if you are not sure about any.
    3. The language is still to informal in places (I have highlighted some examples).
    4. In your discussion of equiment you only discuss camera. What about other equipment that is needed or might be needed during pre-production, production and post production.
    5. Discuss the importance of CVs for personnel - you don't get a job without a good CV.
    6. Your definition of clearance is not really correct. Amend it.
    7. Much of the end is simply plaigarised from Wikipedia without the source being named. You can be disqualified for this. Please digest the deifinitions, do a bit more research into the organisations, and redefine them in YOUR OWN WORDS.

If you can do all this you will be awarded a pass, although if you fail to meet the deadline in future assignemtns you may not be.

  3. By the way - all 5 posts need to be corrected - not just this one.

  4. Minor issue with the 7th point. When I have put any quote from Wikipedia, I even stated myself that it is a quote from Wikipedia. I would have "Digested it" and put into my own words, but that is the issue. My formal method would be essentially similar, and if I did do it without making it similar, that is where the formalities end.

A similar issue is prevailed in point 3, since you highlighted everything the exact same colour, making it harder to tell what parts I need to work on. So it will take a sight bit longer to do the work.

Also, sorry if I do seem a bit insulting with what I am about to say but "Assignments*". You aren't the only one who is not a fan of improper grammar. I only tend to do that when I am rushing.

Now, to actually do the "Scan over" and editing of the work.

    1. Another issue with point 3:
You said you would highlight things which I have made spelling mistakes in, but at least post 4, Such a thing was not seen.
